The Best Eating in St Martin

We spent 6 days in St Martin a few weeks back. The great thing about the Caribbean in the summertime is that the only people around are the bargain hunters. It's hot. It's prone to nasty bouts of weather, up to and including hurricanes.

The first few days were spent sitting on the beach and eating the very good (but very expensive) cuisine at the hotel. The conversion rate from euros to dollars made it all the more painful.

About three days in we felt it was time to venture into town and sample some of the local cuisine. About a 1/4 mile down the road right in the heart of Grand Case stood an outdoor BBQ bazaar with at least 4 separate operations serving up an incredible array of meats and seafood. We ate nowhere else for the remainder of the trip.

The grilled lobsters, available whole or half, were about a third the price of one at a local restaurant.

I made quick work of the ribs. A heaping plate with curry rice ran us a cool $7 US.

We spent our final day lounging beach side, eating as much as we possibly could before heading back to the airport. A local dropped by and talked to us. He told us of the ten years he spent as a translator in Florida, and all about the history of the French and Dutch sides of the island.

All in all, a fantastic trip. See you again soon.
